Compassionate Care for Cat Cancer Patients
When your cat is diagnosed with cancer, it can seem overwhelming. The staff at Cumming Veterinary Clinic has helped guide countless cat parents through a cancer diagnosis and is here to ensure you receive the information and care you need. Dr. FitzSimons has over 25 years of experience treating cancer in companion animals and has completed more than 100 hours of oncology-specific continuing education. He is fully committed to delivering the most up-to-date therapies to your pet and helping you navigate this challenging time.
We consult with a specialist on each case to make sure we're making the best decisions for our patients. If our specialist recommends that a case needs to be handled by a board-certified oncologist, we won't hesitate to make the referral. Our primary focus is to treat your cat as we would our own. This means helping your pet maintain a great quality of life, balancing any underlying conditions, and minimizing side effects. We do not strive to extend your cat's life if we cannot provide good quality to go with it.
Coordinated Care for Common Cat Cancers
We are equipped to deliver most chemotherapy protocols that are considered the gold standard of care. One of the most common cat cancers we see is intestinal lymphoma, which is managed as an outpatient treatment twice a month. We also regularly treat lymphoma and mast cell tumors in cats. Working with on-site, board-certified surgeons
allows us to address many cancer surgeries in our clinic while still providing excellent outcomes for cases like fibrosarcoma (including those caused by vaccines), mammary carcinoma and squamous cell carcinomas.
Minimizing Side Effects of Cat Cancer Treatments
Side effects of cancer therapy are always a concern. Veterinary medicine uses lower doses and less intensive treatment schedules compared to human medicine. Over the past 25+ years, most cats we have treated for cancer have experienced minimal-to-no side effects and have enjoyed a great quality of life during treatment.
